One can only guess why the report is not being released.
May have something to do with the Forest Principles and wanting them to be done and dusted before we get to see that FT are a total waste of time money and effort.
Best not to upset the punters by giving them all the information to look at is it.

It is probaby not being released for the same reason that Gunns asked for a trading halt. A breathing space because the figures are embarrassing and need a little tweaking before release. Also, it might not go down too well while Gunns are trying to get all their approvals. There might be a few foreign investors watching. Maybe Forestry is loooking for an excuse for a couple of gymnastic exercises when the moratorium that is supposed to happen on the 15th where Forestry comes into effect and they are supposed to pull out of HCV logging?

On the other hand, it could be quite innocent and is just that all the spin doctors are still on holiday!

How much do Gunns owe Forestry Tasmania, how long has it owed the money and how has the AG dealt with the matter?

Be interesting to see how much Ta An owe FT also. Perhaps “economic benefits” will include the figures as to how many Tasmanians are actually employed in those veneer mills.

AG does an annual assessment of all GBEs - available on AG website.  A few quotes

In 2009 “In the absence of TCFA funds, Forestry would need the flexibility provided by a working overdraft account. The TCFA infers the agreement can be terminated by the Commonwealth if there is a failure to use money for the purpose for which it was allocated.”

And in 2010 “It is not sustainable for Forestry to generate negative cash from its operating activities, a situation management and the Board must address.” and “However, as noted in the Cash Flow Statement section, we have concerns over Forestry’s longer term liquidity”.

Don’t we all!! FT has paid no dividend since 2006-7, and no tax for five years.  Given that it received $140m in TCFA funds from the Tasmanian and Federal governments, we already know that it is a drain on public resources, not a net contributor to the Tasmanian economy.

What else will AG tell us? And then there is Aurora….

The political system in Tasmania will continue to lick the bellies of those underperforming free-loading upper level management types who are able to come up with all sorts of reasons for their non-involvement in the negative issues and events of those GBEs that are so piss-poorly managed.
