Artec have different markets than Gunns, and different wood supply agreements, mostly if not all from private forests.

Interestingly, one contractor who was ‘compensated’ recently to leave the industry, sold his business and machinery (for which he was ‘compensated’) to a business who now supplies logs to Artec from private forests in the southern central highlands around Dee Lagoon.

The contractor who was ‘compensated’ is believed to be now establishing a logging business in QLD.

Hmmm - compensation to exit the industry, sounds like a fantastic gravy train to get on.

The documentation doesn’t support your first sentence I’m afraid.  I read it all this morning as I sat here at my desk in Beauty Point & looked at Artec’s two woodchip piles that loom like mountains behind the native flora “river visual amenity screen”, I wondered about the repetitive inclusion of the words “hard and soft pulpwood” and the figures stating that 84% of the wood stock comes from state forests (carefully pointed out for which royalties are paid)... and that native trees will feature in the feedstock for as long as it is still available… and the dust and the noise and the water treatment… and the reasonable words used to say “it will be okay”... and all I could do was sigh, frustrated by the opportunity costs and all of the alternative good things that could be done with those timbers and how it could all be better managed and sustainable, with John Williamson singing in my head as I looked across the river.

The LibLabs seem desperate to liquidate Tassie’s forests, even if for only a mess of pottage. 

China is currently the world’s depot for unsustainably or illegally logged wood.

If anyone is old enough to remember the antics of Barry Arnold and kin in the 1980s, then this operation and its various incarnations is a very old battlefront.

This chip mill was started by the Arnolds.

My understanding is that their main market is in Korea, but I could be wrong with this.

#9. Strirated ? - not aware of this one, Winston. The swamp harrier is neither rare, threatened or vulnerable in Tasmania as a result of habitat loss therefore does not require a dedicated sanctuary as a means to maintain or increase its population. Can you think of another bird ?

#10. Yes, extremely funny you’re all so Gunnscentric while others get on with the job and expand by, oddly enough, actually increasing sales. I applaud your vision, keep up the good work.

Remind me how successful the class action is/was when its fate is actually decided by a court, not one-eyed public commentary. I expect a negative result for the plaintiffs will draw howls of derision from the rank and file amid claims of match fixing.
