Tasmania’s Ten Days on the Island Festival has proven to be a financial winner for the state.
Financial records show this year’s festival is estimated to have returned more than $25 million in added value, for a private and public investment of almost $3 million.
The festival earlier in the year created 78 full-time equivalent jobs.
More than $195,000 (sic) people attended various attractions.
The Artistic Director, Elizabeth Walsh, says the festival is also getting a positive international reputation.
“Countries like New Zealand, Canada, support from Hong Kong, the Australia-China Foundation, the United States, the French Government is always incredibly supportive so its always exciting to see the response to the program,” she said.
“The attendance numbers were the one thing that really blew us out of the water.
“Over 195,000 people coming to events over the 10 days period and to events that ran slightly out of those dates, events like Patricia Piccinini.
“[They were] unprecedented numbers at the gallery, it was extraordinary.”
