Anyone with any doubts about the utter contempt in which the Tasmanian government holds its citizens and the utter ignorace it has for public health should not miss this one.

It’s almost impossible dealing with these comments as this is clearly a pack of zealots pushing obsessively a paranoid view of the world. A frog is not a human, that’s a start. Evidence in amphibians does not translate directly to humans. Testing large dosages of pesticides on cells in culture does not equate to the effects of exposure to trace amounts environmentally. Exposure to high dosages of pesticides over many years in an industrial setting (eg the prostate cancer link) does not equal an effect on health when exposed to eency weency amounts.

I don’t expect Dr Bleaney to understand or appreciate the uncertainties of human disease and the highly unlikely scenario that the illnesses of the people she treats are not caused by pesticide exposure. But perhaps she could tell them that getting old, eating too much fatty/processed food, being sedate or socially isolated and not being vigilant to the early signs of disease is much, much more likely to be the cause of their cancer/vascular disease than exposure to minute trace amounts of pesticides.

And John Hayward’s insulting comment is not helpful. Does he actually know that anyone on the front line of public health in Tasmania is wilfully ignoring data relating human illness to pesticide exposure? Is he privy to some sort of cover-up amongst our health professionals or at the University (Menzies Centre)? Give me a break.

Brenda, the Tailrace Centre is a new Church/Community complex on West Tamar Rd opposite the Trevallyn Power Station. You have to get onto the toward town side of West Tamar Rd to get to it - it is well signposted. See you there!

Come and listen to his lecture about real impacts and scientific observations and then make your comments.
And ask any of my patients - I do indeed, ad nauseam, tell them about the problems caused by poor diet,lack of exercise, smoking, too much alcohol, playing in the traffic etc etc.
Do I take it that you mean that we just ignore the other environmental causes of preventable diseases? Surely we have a duty of care?
Give me a break!

How else could one manage to weave a hard hitting scientific term like “eency weency” into an attack on the credibility of a professor from one of the most respected learning institutions on this planet.  Tomas must be working for Gunns, or should be. 

Tomas also says:

Such use of “unlikely” and “not caused” in the same sentence is in fact a lesson on double negatives.  Hence Tomas manages to contradict him self, yet another Gunns trait, because his sentence in fact supports Dr Bleaney’s supposition that pesticide is the likely cause of her patients’ illnesses.  Freudian slip I guess, but getting things muddled up and completely wrong is also standard practice at Gunns, a clear sign of telling way too many lies. 

From where I’m sitting, Dr Bleaney sounds much more credible than Tomas, for motivation alone.

The Tailrace centre is a new building placed near Tailrace Park in Riverside, located directly East of the Trevallyn Power Station.

To access the centre you need to be driving South because it’s a divided highway at that point. If you’re driving North, you can do a U turn at Riverview Road or at most of the sets of lights on the West Tamar Highway, then turn left into the Centre.

The centre is well signed. If parking is a problem, you can park at tailrace park and walk around the track to the Tailrace Centre.

Tomas, we had no idea that being sedate was so dangerous! Just to think that we are probably inviting vascular disease/cancer etc. by being sedate! Could it be that you meant sedentary?

I would like to know more about ‘Tailrace Centre’.Please let me know where can i get more information on this.
