By Sue Neales, The Mercury
Barry Chipman: “This is just going to be another article denigrating the forest industry.” The Mercury: “No, Barry, this is about your people, the forest contractors who are ringing me and telling me that they are in trouble, and what is happening to them.”
And it is their anger and that of smaller contractors that Mr Chipman now finds directed at himself and Timber Communities Australia. Questions have been raised in the forest industry about the role and funding of Timber Communities Australia and who it actually represents. If his organisation truly speaks and stands for timber folk and timber workers, it is no wonder Mr Chipman regrets statements made in the interview. And who, in the best of corporate traditions, is looking to cast blame elsewhere.
