I’m reminded of the time a few years back when I sought to find out who was monitoring air quality in non-urban areas.

While there were fixed instruments in Hobart and Launceston, the monitoring elsewhere was the responsibility of - yes- FT.  And what equipment did they have for the job?  None.

An employee in another department, who asked that I not mention his name, informed me that portable testing equipment could be had for $29,000, a single-digit percentage of the amount spent on the Tarkine road feasibility study.
