Listening to the Community
In 1997 I was responsible for developing the TAFE Tasmania legislation. An independent review of regional TAFE colleges had recommended that five statewide institutes be established to compete with each other, but the public consultation supported a united TAFE Tasmania.
After the TAFE Tasmania Act was proclaimed the AEU wrote to the Minister for Education, Sue Napier, commending the consultation process. Tasmania needs more politicians of Sue Napier’s calibre - those who are prepared to listen to the community and act to make things work.
