Dont worry you are not alone. Reynolds even threatened in said newspaper never to publish my letters again.
To say that this has left an enormous void in my life would be an understatment.
I can only remember one other time that I was stricken with similar grief. When my mother in law threatened never to stay at my house again.

The problem with the Ex, and the Launceston Liberal milieu generally, is that most of the thinking is recycled. Trying to second-guess the latest convoluted wood chip movements intimated by the Lindsay Street septuagenarians is exhausting. It’s a structure built entirely on ownership rather than talent. This is it’s greatest flaw as you have discovered. They don’t understand what they are reporting, yet have the bravado to use a partially understood economic concept as a social engineering imperative. Mix-in some globalised free-trade concepts, and you end-up with Fiona urging a diminishing number of sports-addicted bogans to ‘buy locally’ from their neighborhood multinational cartel. The Ex slammed-shut on me too when I asked politely where their newsprint was sourced. Luckily I have contacts at the highest level at the Ex. My advice is simple. Don’t expect too much of the Ex and you will not be disappointed. Media is something everybody is doing these days.

Forestry 101 peasants.  Get off Ms Reynolds’ back.  You are incorrectly treating “plantation estate” and “resource” as synonyms.  Semantically, they aren’t.  A plantation “estate” is just that.  Trees in the ground. 

In this context, however, a “resource” is wood that supplies a process.  It’s the term the processor (or potential processor) uses.  It’s from their perspective.  Trees are often owned by different entities to the mills they end up in.  There are contracts in place that establish relationships between the trees and the mill.  Mills then regularly refer to “their” resource.  They clearly aren’t claiming ownership of standing trees that clearly belong to someone else.  What they are saying though is that they have resource to run through their process.

A Responsible Entity manages trees for the owner.  However, the RE usually has rights defined in the projects constitution to market that wood.  Hence Gunns can be said to acquire “resource” (for the pulp mill) with taking over as RE for the ex-GS projects.

It’s just simple semantics.  John Hawkins should get a life.

In my opinion the Examiner have been pretty fair handed with their reporting ,especially of late ! and it is only sour grapes on the part of the few who have heaped abuse on them and almost stuffed it for those of us who do get a run.

  One wonders what they really wan’t , is it personal recognitiion ? or do they really care about stopping the mill, because actions and words such as theirs just get people’s backs up ,and consequently we all get tarred with the very same “one eyed greenie” brush.

  Well there you go Pilko jumping to “concussions” again , at this time ive never met the lady (not to say i wouldn’t mind ! being quite partial to fiery redheads and all) and as for being knocked back i average maybe three or five letters a week and am lucky to get printed once a month ! and thats an average of 1 out of say,16 ! but unlike some i’m pretty cool with that, because there are quite a few thousand other individuals with an axe to grind , who also want their say, sadly, there are those who seem to reckon that their particular beef is the only one !  and it,s not !  some really need to put brain into gear before opening their mouths.

I have written the odd letter to the ex and I have also written the odd piece about them. Unlike yourslef, i do it without fear or favour. Unlike yourself Don i have continued to write about the Ex as i see it and have recieved enormous support for the points I have raised.

Yes, I know Jon Kudluka.  I question this mans impartiality as a mainstream media (Mercury, Australian, Murdoch salaried) cartoonist Jon all too frequently draws from a pro-green, pro-environmental perspective and is a regular pro-environmental contrubutor to Linz’s esteemed organ. 

In the interests of fairness, openness and transparency Kudulka should resign and go and work full time for the Wilderness Society.

I wonder how this old Hawkins chap became such an expert in Forestry when his background is in warfare (ex-soldier) and antique dealing. He lives on a lovely big estate loaded with invasive species such as Willows which clog up water ways and destroy the native environment. I would have thought that is an environment crime, possibly worse that forestry?!? By restoring the landscape to the way it was before Europeans interfered with it Peter Andrews managed to retain the water and on his land. His methods have been highly controversial as he has interrupted the flow of water with rocks, logs and other natural debris and planted reeds, willows and even weeds. The result is that the once fertile floodplains have returned to their pre-colonisation conditions. Reserves of water are stored underground, providing a natural irrigation system and keeping pastures permanently green.

While Mr Hawkins’ project may have seemed harmless, even meritorious, in itself, it represents a principle that Tasmanian officials have wisely sought to nip in the bud - conservation.

We all saw how the logging industry spearheaded efforts to prevent further legislation of streamside vegetation protection, and how David Llewellyn opposed the most minimal of marine reserves.  They understand the dangers of an exotic concept like this going feral.

One thing that does merit preservation is Sam Clark.  He represents a remnant of a species almost wiped out by the advent of the Cro-Magnons.

I think you are wrong John. They are far from becoming extinct. Here they abound and control everything and get voted in time and again by all their clan. Although they are all Thals, they come in two distinct groups, the Knees, who are the rulers and the Duhs who are the supporters. However, their claim to be the first Tasmanians is contestsed by the Arb tribe, who claim that they are the originals. But the Thals generally ignore this completely and are equally damning of the other tribes as well, such as those that come from the Land of Mayne and all the Bloodie Blowinz.

These self-elected ‘REAL’ Tasmanians can often be found in the forests and the pubs and unite under the slogan, ‘Tazzie for the Knee-and-Duh-Thals’!

I believe the term is EEMH (European Early Modern Humans), not Cro-Magnons anymore. If you are going to insult me, please use the right term.
