Well, your company, Calton, should be supplying millions, not thousands of dollars to help the devil, you two-faced ********! You pay lip-service with this kind of support while completely devastating native habitat by clearfelling, burning and poisoning. Almost no-one buys it. Gunns is the pariah it ever was.

Calton makes an excellent case for sustainability which means that Gunns won’t need any more government help, taxpayer subsidies or below market resources.

It has to be the sickest of ironies when the one company that has done more than any other to poison and destroy the habitat of our unique native wildlife is now promoting itself as saviours of the Tasmanian Devil.

By allowing himself to be used as a pawn for Gunns propaganda machine Bruce Englefield is either breathtakingly naive or shares the same environmental values as Don Burke.

Either way, the Devil Island Project and Bruce Englefield’s reuptations have both been severely tarnished by their association with Gunns which will cause more damage than good and can only partly be repaired by the swift removal of this odious communication.

Yes, that is true - about every six months. It started with the RPDC, then went on to Paul Lennon, followed by Sweco Pic, then Malcolm Turnbull and after that, Peter Garret and now the ball is in the court of David Bartlett.

Unfortunately they failed all these tests against ‘Highest International Standards’ and each time thay have gone back to the drawing board and these high standards have consistently crept lower and lower. The test is due again in just over a weeks time and will they pass this time?

However, they are tenacious and will ask for yet another chance, and all those that wish them well will roll-over once again, push a few more millions their way, lower the bar and give them a further six months before they need to ask again.

It is this type of hypocritical PR spin that reinforces why I won’t donate any money to protecting the threatened devil.  I’d love to, but to me donating money to find the “cure” when the fundamental cause ie habitat destruction and poisoning, goes on unabated!  My money is better spent in trying to stop the current forestry practices that have resulted in the potential extinction of a Tassie icon.  Also, Bruce, I know that funds can be hard to come by,(perhaps because people feel as I do?) but accepting corporate
sponsorship from Gunns in this case is dancing with the devil!  You are taking money from a company that has made a “significant contribution” to the extinction of this amazing animal.

Conscience money…Tassie the 1080 state. How does it happen,the same way the the fox people have been allowed to lay 250,000 plus meat based 1080 baits. We have a corrupt hierachy in that department and a Minister that is an easily led idiot. I can’t wait for the Public Accounts Committee into the fox fiasco to get on the scent of the money trail and where it leads to.
I could name three companies here that are involved in testing and bait/attractant manufacture and “independant” advice and reviews. These companies are all beneficiaries of State and Federal Government largesse.

Why are the 1080 fox eradication warnings pasted onto the trees in Gunns plantations around Upper Natone?

The “fear” of foxes will guarantee the continuance of 1080.
But after eight long years where is the fox?
We now know who and what with the the Glen Esk Road, Conara fox. A plant,simply people protecting their jobs.

      It has been told to me that farmers hate devils with a passion as they prey on lambs, this may or may not be true.
      What is true is that no foxes exist in this state and there needs to be an inquiry as to where the vast amount of money that i being poured into their supposed eradication,and who benifits from it ?
      Could it be that there is a much more sinister operation taking place, such as the eradication of the devil ? the facial tumour disease that has suddenly become prevalent and supposedly due to them biting one another is blatant stupidity.  devils have been biting one another for millions of years and have only ended up on the endangered list since the onset of white population.

You are right Don,some farmers hate Devils. They hate anything that may eat a blade of grass or may eat even an already dead lamb. I know of farmers that for years poisoned anything and everything with phosdrin,lucyjet or anything toxic they could get their hands on. Now the 1080 fox baits are doing it for them.
Regards an inquiry into the fox fiasco… there is the Public Accounts Committee inquiry in February. Bring it on I say.

The Devil Island project at the East Coast Natureworld wildlife park is a construct containment facility on a pseudo-island. “Pseudo” because the island does not exist geographically - i.e. as a body of land peremanently surrounded by water. The project exists on a piece of land bordered partly by sea dunes and the Tasman sea and partly by a shallow brackisk lagoon; it becomes a virtual ‘island’ only when it is fenced on all sides.

Bruce Emglefield’s Devil Island at Natureworld has received private sponsorship, public donations and qualified approval from at least one Tasmanian Government department (DPIW).

Competition amongst the Tasmanian wildlife fauna park fraternity is very erest indeed. In my opinion it is directly analogous to a group of hungry devils trying desperately for a bite to eat from the same dead carrion. [What a metaphor. And who kill the carrion in the first place!]

Gunns sponsorship of the devil island project (in my opinion) is part of their soft-serve community outreach opportunism that doesn’t cost them much in dollars but tricky sophistry to a devil-caring public.

I guess, Natureworld wouldn’t be too concerned who wrote the cheque…as long as it didn’t bounce!
