Some teachers need to consider us parents and the kids instead of themselves. Why not on the next student free day get together and look at ways to assist the change instead of threatening industrial action. Sure change is hard and there will be teething problems but at least get behind a genuine effort to improve Tasmania’s dismal retention rate. The public is getting tired of the union’s bully behaviour.

As I said on another thread, what is the point of “assisting the change” if the change is fundamentally flawed, educationally unsound, inappropriate for Tasmania, and detrimental to student welfare? it’s a rerun of the system we got rid of 30 years ago.
Does the general public, including G Burrow, really understand what the changes are and what effect they are having on both teachers and students? Of course there will be some, like the one in today’s paper, who are not affected including those high level academic students who will go about their studies as they always did, as well as the teachers who have remained in the positions teaching those students. However, it is the rest that are the cause of the greatest concern - the average and below average students who the senior colleges previously counselled, nurtured and cajoled into doing their best in a supportive and multi-skilled environment, who are now dumped into multi-age polytechnic colleges (a very outdated concept in many other countries) to sink or swim with minimal support and chaotic administration. Not only is the reform educationally flawed, it has been done on the cheap with no major funding set aside for it and with a poorly planned and under resourced and over bureaucratised implementation which has become a complete farce.
