Flailing MP calls it a day

THE troubled Tasmanian Labor MP Jodie Campbell has thrown open the marginal seat of Bass with her decision to quit at the next election. Her decision to return to family life is likely to be greeted with relief by the ALP, which saw her flounder in Canberra despite her warm personal style. Ms Campbell, 37, was unable to put her imprint on the demanding Launceston-based electorate, even before an alleged assault by her partner threatened to dominate perceptions in the run-up to the poll.

So Steve Titmus thinks he would be a better representative for Bass. With the amount of animosity which Gunns have cultivated in this electorate, I don’t think so. We need a representative who will listen to the people and not be swayed by big business and their promised rewards, whatever they may be. As Steve Titmus was a spokesperson for Gunns that is a major black mark against him to begin with. What we need in this electorate, as I see it, is either Green or Independent representation as Labor and Liberal both, with their blind promoting of Gunns, advocate the destruction of Tasmania for financial gain.

What do you mean “greeted with relief by Labor” ? She didn’t volunteer to go ! Where the hell else will she ever get a $120,000/year job with perks ? She was given the big heave-ho see-you-later don’t-call-us boot by Labor.

Federal Labor isn’t completely stupid. They knew full well that there was no way she could hold Bass. Despite a massive national swing to Labor at the last election she lost the primary vote and only scraped in by Green preferences.

After her incredibly weak performance, noted only by her continuous “nodding donkey” routine in parliament, she was dead already. (Anonymous Personal Abusive Assumption Deleted)

As for Titmus. Pffftt. An ex-Gunns spokesman and a hand-me-the-script TV talking head ?! What a combination. You’d think the lIbs could come up with something a bit more appealing.

What a sorry lot. You’d think the major parties would invest a bit more effort into a marginal seat.

Here is the opportunity to get a credible voice for Bass in Canberra. After years of valuable contributions in Local Government and in other first class performances in the Tamar Region, Jeremy Ball would make a fantastic House of Representative candidate.

My deleted comment was speculation about why she was moved from her “nodding donkey” seat in parliament. Not personally abusive I thought. That’s not my style.
