On the face of things, I’m pretty happy with how the David Hicks issue has resolved; 6 years is okay for the rather tenuous crimes he was (finally) charged with, he’ll be home soon and by New Year’s he’ll be free, to haunt the nightmares of anyone who has bought the Federal government’s “Boogeyman” nonsense.  Such as yourself.  No doubt he was treated like shit while in detention, but that’s all in the past now, isn’t it?

I hope the Brits are in a right lather over Alan Johnston—as many Australians were over David Hicks—BUT MY POINT IS (and please pay attention, this really is very monotonous) that Hicks was kidnapped by Northern Alliance soldiers in Ahghanistan and sold to the US military, while Mr Johnston has been taken by a very different group, for no doubt very different reasons.  My suspicions are confirmed that such complexity is entirely beyond your simplistic conservative world-view.
