KEEPING IT IN THE CLUB: Is it a case of Stockholm Syndrome ... with former Examiner Editor Fiona Reynolds - severely criticised for being overtly pro-Gunns during her Ex tenure - giving another beleaguered ex-Editor a deathline in the dreary Drive spot on ABC North. Or is it one more step towards providing ageing conservative journos with the ABC equivalent of the Vaucluse Retirement Village ... with equivalent rivetting conversation on macrame and hydro-spaaing for arthritic minds?

I don’t know about the politics of it all, but I do know Marie and I loved listening to Roisin.  No disrespect to anyone else, but we loved to hear her.  Missed her when she went off-air, were glad when she came back.  Sad for us when she then went to a ‘training role’.

Guess I’m conservative, slow to change.  Liked Coxie too - again, no disrespect to the incumbent.  And what of Elaine Harris presently on Afternoons?  Penny Terry will surely feel some jet lag or body clock dissonance.

I wonder if Mr Gary Bailey the new ABC North Shock Jock, will speak up about the continuing indigenous wildlife slaughters created especially by the rogue Tasmanian GBE of Forestry Tasmania?

He’s had one stint on ABC radio which could hardly be described as the performance of a shock jock.

I realise you’re probably used to saying whatever you like about others without it being challenged, so i am sorry to ask again but where is your evidence that Garry Bailey is a “Shock Jock”?

Pilko, mayhaps the lingo of Shock Jock was a tad over the top, however there have been many issues the former Mercury Editor would duck and weave from that were often highly contentious matters.

That this in effect is a media constant in this State finds me not having, holding or expecting change to anything other than the same from such Tas media ingrained persons, that in all reality does nothing for my truth-seeking soul toward most all media individuals (excluding Tas Times,] of any kind other than those who fearlessly report) the truth?

Speakers of the truth in our nation’s media are rare gems indeed in today’s world of contrived spin and beguilment, (For example: see most all Forestry Tasmania pronouncements, statements and or claims appearing in the various Tasmanian media sources.)

Such media mamagement persons who allow such “machine-shopped turning and reshaping of news and information items” to equally pass as the acceptable news of the day, are in my mind complicit in this action of resort now made famous by the corporates of today.

All of those who have a purposed agenda to meddle with the facts and realities of the harms issued by corporates and their willing agents, (that I am not afraid to say,includes news editors within the general media,) that are the chosen means to inflict such “perversions of the truth” upon our society, are also just as guilty by their association with the impure material made available for publication to the masses.

As a Government funded body surely the ABC should begin advertising these jobs and nationally to find the best person for the position.And shouldn’t previous experience be considered?And what was wrong with the work Eileen Harris ,a seasoned professional, was doing on ABC Northern Tasmania who seems to have been pushed aside in all this.By the way did anyone hear Penny Terry call Paul Arnold “Steve Kons” in a recent interview?Also I assume Mr Bailey is preparing to move to Launceston to reside to do this job properly.

However i think we ought to give Mr Bailey some time in the new job before we pass judgement.

Since Cox and co left and Reynolds came in, dumbing down of abc radio broadcasting nears completion. Is Compton a mini shock jock in training? And now we have Bailey. So in the north we can have ‘he who can’t speak english’ in the mornings and the ex murdoch experienced tabloid shocker in the arvos. Seems like blanket shock jock tactics to me. (Rosin McCann made a brave move in going after the source of all that smoke in April last year?) Manipulation of info to the public is the way its done. Especially with the lcc now coming out in favor of the mill? All the abc media arrangements are being put in place by the ex examiner gunns defender, Fiona Reynolds.
Yep, perhaps this is the era for the abc to be finally sold off or privatized. Howard nobbled the board, which has never recovered its balance; gradually replace presenters with shock jocks and you’ve sold it out, from the inside. Break it up and sell it off completely. Then as per the murdoch corporate warmongers way, we can all go to war. At least the taxpayer will no longer be paying for the abc to promote it.

Pilko, the article referenced ex-editor above, has been known as alleged, to have filtered and or chosen to publish, (or not publish news articles sensitive to and or most derogative to the forestry interests in this State!)
Thus a selective unconcerned arbitrator of what shall be published to the avid public in his former role as Editor of the Mercury News Tasmania!

Garry Bailey’s shock jock tactics have been everywhere in evidence with Crikey’s assessment of The Mercury as having Australia’s 2nd highest level of spin-driven articles.

This new appointment of Bailey to ABC Radio is a disaster for independence of Tasmania’s media. His former Mercury Chief of Staff Damien Brown also left in June to join ABC Radio. Why can’t we have a policy of Mercury and Examiner journos rotating out of the state, and more to the point some unbiased mainland journos coming in?
