ABC Local Content Manager Jocelyn Nettlefold today announced that Garry Bailey will be the new Drive presenter for ABC Northern Tasmania.

After 10 years as editor of the Mercury and Sunday Tasmanian he will join ABC Local Radio in February.

Speaking on his new role Garry noted, ‘‘As I told my wonderful staff at the newspaper, the time is right for a change and as it has panned out, it’s proved to be a dramatic change for me as well. When I filled in on Statewide Mornings last year for two weeks I became an instant radio addict and when this new challenge came just weeks after I told Davies Brothers of my intention to step down as editor, I jumped at the chance.

‘‘Obviously it is going to be a big learning curve for me but I know from my brief ABC gig that my new colleagues are a mighty talented and helpful crew and that the audience were pretty forgiving of the new guy. And that’s the key - the local audience gives Tasmanian local radio its vibrancy and it’s an instant and intimate connection. I can’t wait to hear their stories.’‘

Local Content Manager, Jocelyn Nettlefold said Garry Bailey brings a wealth of experience and deep knowledge of Tasmanian issues to ABC Local Radio.

“Garry is passionate about Tasmania, its people, strengths and challenges. He will be an asset to the strong 2012 ABC Local radio line-up.”
