The Tasmanian Government has revealed that the prison services director has resigned due to personal and family reasons.
In a statement, the Justice Department says Barry Greenberry has quit just one year into a five-year contract and will return to the United Kingdom soon.
It is understood the department has paid out Mr Greenberry’s contract after he formally resigned last week.
He was appointed to the job last April after a world-wide recruitment search.
In a statement, the Government says Mr Greenberry has asked that his privacy be respected.
The British corrections specialist with 29 years of experience was employed to help turn around the Hobart prison after an independent report found inmates were being warehoused instead of rehabilitated.
