sorry for the stoopids and i know the timber monkeys are generally interchangeable. . . but who is this munt? He always makes me think of Russell Gilbert, but I know that ain’t him.

That would be Kevin Harkins, erstwhile ALP candidate for Franklin who has finally thrown himself on his sword for the good of the ALP and Rudd’s federal election chances, where even one seat is critical.
The Judge Jury and Executioner bit is a reference to the fact that Harkins is on the ALP committee that was considering Quick’s expulsion.
Yep, local politics at work. Harkins has bowed to the inevitable realisation that he was doing the party harm. Harry knows the people of Franklin and knew what they would accept and what they would not. How much damage the Harkins episode has done remains to be seen. Perhaps the faces in this cartoon should be swapped over?

I find it rather shocking that Harry Quick saw himself as the Kingmaker for his replacement. What extraordinary arrogancy. He has supped for many years off the bosom of the ALP, and has now bitten the hand that fed him. He can look forward now to retirement as a Labor villain. Perhaps rather than using his backbencher allowance to support chook raffles, sporting clubs and bingo, he could use his hefty pension which he owes to ALP patronage over so many years. Despite the press and Lib campaign, anyone who know Kevin H will know that he is a decent bloke and would get off his bum to help the average bods in the ETU. In contrast, I am unsure what Harry Q’s legacy will be, except for this last ignoble act. I suppose the Bingo Halls may need to find a new sponsor? The delicious irony is that while the Libs have got a scalp today, Harkins will likely be replaced by a more electable candidate.

“Harkins will likely be replaced by a more electable candidate. “
It is interesting to ask what constitutes betrayal of the ALP .. demanding a different candidate and so improving Rudd’s chances of government?
Or as Lennon and the CFMEU did last election ... cheer on a Howard government and thereby enable the work choice legislation.

Tomas, me old sparring partner, couldn’t agree with you more. Seems like anyone in the ALP who is prepared to stand up to the bosses is in for the chop.
Mind you, this is hardly a new development. I could tell you stories about the Queenstown mines from the days of Eric Reece that would make your hair curl. And that was even before Harradine and his offsider Paul Lennon tried to take over.
Nah, it was always a bosses’ party and it always will be. Gunns are just the latest in a long line of companies that the ALP in Tassie has sold out to, and Kevin H is just one more martyr to their sycophancy.

A coupla days delay in the posting but as the Tas ALP division started playing its localised form of amateur politics I did have the alternative theme of “Dead Man Walking.” It wasn’t Harry’s fault. It was the fault of our own Tasmanian ALP and its union factions.

OMG: bosoms, hands and scalps all over the place - what delicious mixed metaphors Tomas! Alas for the ALP, Harry “they can get stuffed” Quick owes not only “.... his hefty pension .... to ALP patronage over so many years”, he also owes the Party quite a bit of the “backbencher allowance” Tomas is so interested in. Now Harry: you got your way, how about paying up ;)

holy shit! Dumass is speaking up against Harry Quick. I must have got it wrong through sheer misunderstanding of the context. Good on you Harry! Good on anything that’s the opposite of what Rignobli says.

The real fake Tomas would never have used a word like “arrogancy”.
A dead give-away.

Nor would he have mangled his metaphors so appallingly. His views may be odd at times but they are always academically expressed 8)
