Fair Work Australia (FWA) has today handed down an historic decision awarding Social, Community & Disability workers Equal Pay.
Health and Community Services Union (HACSU) Acting State Secretary, Tim Jacobson said “this is an historic decision that will finally address the inequality that these workers have faced for far too long”.
“FWA has awarded wage increases of between 19-41% to be phased in over eight years. While we were obviously hoping for a six year phase in period, this is still a major win”.
“Union members have been campaigning for this outcome for years and at last they will be recognised for their tireless dedication and skill”.
“I believe this Equal Remuneration Case is the most important equal pay push since 1972 when equal pay for equal work of equal value was formally recognised. The reality is that since 1972 we are still fighting for equal pay”.
“We now call on the Premier Lara Giddings to join with the Prime Minister and commit to fully funding this outcome.”
