We ought not to be complacent about this. We have a conservative state government and Treasurer Aird would love to do these things, given half the chance. Stimulate the economy by wrecking the environment.

According to the Ex of the 9th Feb, Dick Adams, Lyons MP, is also on this particular warpath. He wants the EPDC Act reviewed. ‘There’s something seriously wrong with the process.  We’re going on six years on an approval process for this pulp mill and that really makes it a bit of a joke of everybody (sic) - our State Government and Federal approval processes.
If you listen to what the Green Members of Parliament say, they are saying,‘we will take the minister to court under the Act if he doesn’t do X, Y and Z as the Act says.’ ‘

The problem is not the systen that is holding up the pulp mill, it is the pulp mill that does not conform to the rules. According to Dick the solution is to change the rules, not the mill. Move the goalposts to fit Gunns requirements and the mill will not be a problem. Just who is he representing?

Didn’t Gunns recently say they were looking for business in New Zealand…..?

The proposed pulp mill has always been about making the rules fit the proposal.

It was always “world’s best practice”, but only financially, not holistically.

It was to be chlorine free in the Howard days, but that green bottle feel off the shelf.
It was only going to be passed if it made it past the RPDC said Lennon, but another green bottle fell.

The assessment process became an approvals process as yet another bottle hit the deck.

This proposal will be plantation based so they said, but native forest will continue to be clear felled as the pile of green glass grows.

Garrett gives the nod says Gunns, but another 18 months will now pass before they have the good science to make the doo dah into strawberry jam.

We will have the finance, we are getting the finance, the finance is looking good etc etc….

And there was no green bottles hanging on the wall, but the show rolls on………

Why not almost everything else is slanted downhill in favour of environmentl destruction.

Removing the last vestiges of control can put the current version of dark satanic mills on every corner or will the changes only be for special deals and special mates.

Although if the Totally Chlorine Free pulpmill first offered by the little liars was the approved project…. No they would have come out with the true plan, dumb and dirty.

That would be familiar to the Odious Adams.

Dick is ignoring the fact that it is Gunns who have caused most of the holdups in the process.
They failed to do their homework and hand it in to the RPDC, then decided to withdraw the proposal, no doubt after being told by the Government here that they would be given mates deals to get it through. Such as having a Dam built for them ( the Meander Dam), and a special process to speed things up. Stil they failed every time to meet deadlines and do the studies.
Dick this is the biggest, ugliest and most destructive project ever to be planned for Tasmania.
Politicians don’t seem to get the message .

We all know that Dick Adams has always been totally for this pulp mill so it’s no surprise that he makes such stupid statements.

Politicians and would- be politicians in Tasmania absorb with their mothers’ milk that opposing Forestry/ Gunns in any way is a quick path to oblivion. However, follow the shining path and rewards shall be given you.
No less than the then Labor leader Mr Latham tripped over that hurdle whilst Mr Howard benefitted - as did Mr Dick Adams. Any deviants since have rued it: Terry Martin for one and Lisa Singh, who had to go overboard to be accepted back.
Any public servant, for example those in the E.P.A., who was tempted to cavil at the latest pro-Forestry/ Gunns decision would be far more intelligent than to do so publicly.
