Poor report card on economy
Tasmania has ranked poorly in a report comparing the economic performance of the states and territories over the past three months.
The latest CommSec State of the State report shows Tasmania has the worst retail trade figures in the nation.
Spending is down almost 4 per cent compared to a year ago and up just 11 per cent on the decade average.
Of the eight states and territories, Tasmania is ranked fifth for economic growth and sixth for investment in equipment.
House prices have fallen by over 5 per cent and housing finance has dropped more than 21 per cent below the decade average.
Tasmania has one of the highest unemployment rates at 5.6 per cent, but the state has benefited from a boom in construction work which is 32 per cent above the decade average.
The Opposition has labelled the State Government financially incompetent.
