WHO is the real Julia Gillard? Following yesterday’s press conference, in which the Prime Minister squared her shoulders to answer detailed questions about her conduct as a Slater & Gordon solicitor 17 years ago, there is a new question: who is the best Julia Gillard?
To which the answer is evident: this one.
The best Julia Gillard is the woman whose back is to the wall and whose sense of dignity is outraged by what she called a ”sexist smear campaign” against her. She is the woman who doesn’t hide her contempt for ”the misogynists and the nutjobs on the internet” behind the campaign. And the woman who, as the Opposition Leader, Tony Abbott, so memorably put it when speaking to his partyroom, ”won’t lay down and die”. Pity we don’t see more of her.
After several weeks of negative reports over Gillard’s creation of a workers’ association that was later used for the personal benefit of her boyfriend at the time, the Prime Minister squared her shoulders and entered the bullring.
