ONCE a year award-winning Hobart cartoonist Jon Kudelka lets his imagination well and truly off the leash. Beyond the strictures of political cartooning and the crush of daily deadlines lies fertile ground: and in his case it’s populated by flatulent cows, friendly penguins, wheelbarrow-toting spin doctors and grim reapers with a sense of humour. “I sometimes wonder if drawing pictures is a job for a grown man,” ponders the artist in his exhibition the Haikudelka Project—a combination of a cartoon and the Japanese 17 syllable three-line poem.
