Launceston College rejects Tasmania Tomorrow 4

AEU members at Launceston College have overwhelmingly rejected Tasmania Tomorrow once again.

Sixty-six members voted to endorse a statement of opposition to Tasmania Tomorrow and highlighting the many achievements of the college, its proud history and the full range of educational opportunities and experiences that are available to its students.

AEU Secondary College President, Greg Brown, said: “From the day Tasmania Tomorrow was invented, Launceston College has shown overwhelming opposition to it. Meeting after meeting has had the same result. This time the vote was 66 to zero to save the college from tumbling out of control into the Tasmania Tomorrow nightmare.

“The stand made by the staff at the college is endorsed by the Launceston school community. Parents and students know what a wonderful education institution it is. Since the Tasmania Tomorrow experiment started, Launceston College’s numbers have ballooned by over 34%,” he said.

AEU Launceston College Branch Secretary, Gary Bensemann, said, “The AEU members at Launceston College, are most concerned that the hard-won tradition of excellence and the supportive environment we have will be wrecked by Mr Bartlett’s ill-conceived and fundamentally flawed plan.”
