At last the Liberal Party has ‘fessed up to it’s involvement with the Exclusive Brethren during the last State Election (Examiner 22/8/09). Anything to avoid facing a tribunal hearing.

Fortunately, a lesson has been learnt, and the state director for the Liberals says the party won’t be playing with the Exclusive Brethren this time round.

However, Mr Hawkes does say the Liberals may once again ‘target Greens policies on transgender and intersex people’.

Really, Mr Hawkes, I would have thought that by now you might have checked what you are talking about.

Last State Election, joint Liberal/Brethren leaflets claimed the Greens would allow people to choose to be gay, lesbian, transgender or intersex.

One can choose to change one’s gender, although it is not an easy process, and whether one chooses to be gay or lesbian is a moot point.

However an intersex person is someone born with some male and some female physical sexual characteristics, so I am struggling to see how it is something one can choose. By the way, one child in every 2000 born is intersex.

It appears that in their eagerness to lampoon the Greens, some members of the Liberal Party and the Brethren not only discriminated against several minority groups, they didn’t bother to get the most basic facts straight.

Please Mr Hawkes, try entering the word ‘intersex’ in the google window on your computer, and hit ‘search’. You’ll be surprised at what you’ll find out.
