While Mr. Ormerod from Workplace Standards is in the mood for investigating and slamming (Examiner, 29 Nov 2008) perhaps he should also cast his eye on safety issues here in the North East.
Large trucks – mostly log-trucks – are unable to travel from the Pyengana area along the main highway to Launceston via Scottsdale or St Marys without breaking the law. That Forestry Tasmania, Gunns and other companies have put all drivers in this position with the complicity of the Tasmanian Government is completely unacceptable.
Currently children’s health and safety in school buses and all those on the road – including the truck drivers - are being compromised because the police do not enforce the current laws of the road.
Why the double standards? Who is liable when the accident happens?
