ABOUT 200 students have held a rally to protest a series of street attacks near the University of Tasmania’s Hobart campus.

Students already worried about violence in the wake of last year’s murder of Zhang “Tina” Yu have become increasingly anxious after several violent incidents near campus.

A student was ambushed and robbed in View St, Sandy Bay, on Saturday night and another was attacked by six men wielding bottles in Grosvenor St, suffering a broken nose and cheek, after leaving the law school.

The crowd of students were joined by police, state Labor minister David O’Byrne, Liberal members Elise Archer and Vanessa Goodwin, federal senate hopeful Lisa Singh and university academic staff.
