I’ve scoured the web and the only pics I can find with Bob and trees involve passionate embrace.

The above pics are in the Styx Valley, not Tamar, and involve preparing the trees for woodchipping.

Also curyous about (i) the log grade, (ii) whether the log warranted dyspatch to a sawmyller, and (iii) yf so dyd the syngle tree selectyon sistem provyde a profyt, (iiii) what happened to the non-sawlog woodi materyal, and (v) what the syte was regenerated wyth (Y’m guessyng Polianthus spp.)

Very funny Hugo, I reckon the only good thing a hard hat would be good for is putting under your backside if you fell.
It may have been a bit difficult to get the log out of the persons yard in one piece, but then that is why a specialist tree climber is employed.
For a tree hugger Bob has nerves of steel.
Buggered if I would want to be up there cutting bits off as the tree sways about.

But not only is Bob good in taking GUNNS’ Spin-doctors to task, he also knows no fear in taking out big crowns of potentially dangerous trees, often in confined spaces, yes, Bob knows where the action is.

Imagine all of Bob’s clients would send in their photos of Bob removing real hazards in their backyards over the last 20 years or so.

I am sure Bob will use firewood to keep his house warm and cosy and also a solar hot water system.
hugoagogo, single tree selection keeps the wood-factory maintained and the young seedlings have no time to hang around to grow big knots.

Just goes to prove that TAP is not just another greenie organization, but made up of grass-roots community members from all walks of life and occupations. (Note well, Tomas *gasp* it even has a number of salt-of-the-earth blue collar workers who can actually SEE the wood for the trees!!!)

Bob works on the interface between civilisation and wilderness. Unlike Gunns who work on the interface between life as we know it and annihilation. I suspect the reason Bob hasn’t been taken-out by one of these giants is because he respects the power of nature.

This could be nothing but a setup by some deranged individual attempting to demoralise a person dedicated to all that is good, including preserving what remains of our precious ancient forests.
Seems as if the lowlife are grasping at straws because even if this was Bob McMahon so what.
Sometimes trees have to be removed in built up areas that threaten lives and properties.

This is useless information about nothing .

There is a vast gulf between selective harvesting of trees (and Bob’s highly skilled work at dismantling individual trees safely, often in confined spaces), and the industrial rape, pillage and burn of vast tracts of native forest as practiced by Gunns, FT and their contractors.
How many who participate on these pages think no trees should be harvested. Very few I suspect.
Tasmania has a valuable resource which should be used - with care, with respect. Let us step back to the old days of family-owned saw-millers who worked to make an honest living without destroying everything!

D.I Nicholas (#12)- I think this article is a light-hearted tongue-in-cheek jest and should be seen as such - I assure you it is indeed Bob - I should know, since I am married to him. One of his jobs since he quit teaching Art many moons ago, is taking out trees growing in difficult-to-access suburban situations. You know the ones - someone plants a nice little native a few feet from his house and one windy day looks out and sees a forest giant (that should never have been planted anywhere in a quarter acre block) swaying in the wind and threatening to crumple car, house and homeowner himself should it shed a mighty limb or fall over as they sometimes do! Bob does all the jobs no-one else will touch - the ones that can’t be accessed with a cherry-picker.

Sometimes the only way to remove these trees is from the top down in small pieces…...Bob is a specialist at this, since he is also a rock-climber and has all the appropriate gear and as Pete Godfrey point out - nerves of steel. He’s been doing it for about thirty years and so far no serious injuries, because - you are right Karl - he respects the power of nature.

BTW, Hugoagogo (#2) Bob IS wearing a hard hat in photos 2 & 3, but in the one where he is looking up planning his attack, he is actually nowhere near the tree itself and in no more danger from falling stuff than someone walking through the park.

Thank you Bob for being there and your care and skill in solving huge problems. 
An old and damaged E. regnens stood in the middle of our yard when we purchased our property.  Such a magnificent tree, we could not bring ourselves to chop it down as advised by all locals. 
After we had infrastructure - sheds, fences, smaller trees - all around, when it had the third large trunk sheer off due to water inside the trunk, we had to make the decision to cut the tall branches down. 
Bob came and carefully and skilfully took down the tall trunks piece by piece.  Not a single thing was harmed, and every piece fell in exactly the place he determined.  Sometimes the error factor was only a meter or so!!  This took about an hour and a half.
His skill and dedication is in stark contrast to the bulldozer/clear fell mentality that is practiced by Gunns and their contractors.

Bob you are amazing. 
Thank you for being there.
Thank you also for your relentless fight against the stinking pulp mill - we are in total support all the way.

Bushranger, I daresay that Bob tends to sharpen the left teeth more than the right with predictable consequences on the saw’s progress. Also, one of the consequences of fire sub-climax tall wet euc communities coming up with 2-10 million seedlings per hectare is very effective branch control. BTW you won’t get many (if any) saplings under single tree selection in tall wet eucs.
