Firstly the goals of the 350 Campaign and goverment policy do not coincide as besides a 100 % reduction in emissions, 40ppmv of CO2 has to be rewmoved from the atmosphere and the most effective mechanism for that, forests, faces degradation under the cureent policy, reducing that parts capacity to sink and store carbon.

So it is strange that the Botanic Gardens joined in although being familiar with the plant world they are most likely to understand the impacts of higher temperatures on the basis of all life, plants and their communities.

The government’s recent innovation paper lists forestry as an important driver for the Tasmanian economy and at the same time recognizes that managment has managed to exhaust the supply of Catergory 1 and 3 sawlogs, making a transition to plantation product and smaller regrowth sawlogs essential. 

Perhaps Latham’s $800M was reborn in Canberra during Bartlett’s recent visit as the proposed pulpmill isn’t pulling its weight.

Its time to abandon the large scal industrial assult on the world’s carbon densest forests and to turn them into carbon sinks and stores to offsett emissions whilst Australia transists to a zero carbon economy.

The climate difficulties faced now with drought and fires will pale into the memory as good times if we continue on the path the coal, oil and forest industries wish.

Now then Mr. Clever Bartlett, what have the remainder of Parks and Wildlife, Forestry Tasmania and Gunns Ltd have planned for the following Autumn, could it be a raging pyromanic lusting toward even more forested area burn-offs?

Under this failing Labor government there is one park ranger for each area of some of 30,000 hectares.
This pyromania must be a feature of Connect Tasmania or some other such meaningless kindergarten slogan, which of course would be dreamed up by one of the battalion of spinmeister drones on the taxpayer funded payroll.

Maybe Bob Gordon of F/T fame, can do some fly overs in his helicopter and broadcast to us all of the goodness and the benefits these fires are contributing to the Tasmanian 350 goals?

It’s very cynical of Lisa Singh to jump on the 350.org bandwagon when that organisation’s target is to STOP emissions no later than 2015. One of the main sources of carbon emissions in Tasmania comes from landclearing and deforestation. Why don’t you ban these activities Ms Singh?  It would reduce our emissions by 14%.

So are they saying there are no more category 1 and 3 logs in The Weld, The Florentine, The Tarkine, The Great Western Tiers etc? If so, that means all they have got left there is low value chip material.
