Teachers are crying foul due to the Premier not supporting the democratic vote of the AEU yet teachers do not support the democratic vote of the Tasmanian public. Surely the future of our education should be determined by a democratically elected premier instead of the teachers union. If teachers are not prepared to accept the vote of the people then they should step aside. Our children’s education is too important for a bully union to block desperately needed reform.

The Premier was not democratically elected, ie, ‘of the people, by the people, for the people’.

This sort of attitude simply astounds me. Who does G Burrow think “the union” is? it always amazes me that people who are anti-union have this completely false idea that the union officers tell its members what to do. Nothing could be further from the truth. Officers may advise but in actuality it is the members who tell the officers what to do through a representative council and voting system. So, the bullying union is actually the members ( a substantial majority of the 90% density) directing their elected representatives what they want done.
For primary and secondary teachers to join in this fight against an educationally unsound reform which is demonstrating itself as detrimental to students, is very significant. they have nothing to gain by joining their colleagues in colleges but are showing their disgust at the imposition of a system which is not serving our students well.
G Burrow - do you not understand that just because a govt is elected does not mean they get things right. I think you must be the only person left in Tasmania who thinks this govt is getting anything right. You can’t support something glaringly wrong just because the current govt was democratically elected.
