One email, written on behalf of the union’s State Manager, Chris Lane, says the ABC Radio News report about the apparent campaign against Mr Bartlett had been drawn to the attention of the President, Leanne Wright, by the Premiers office. The Branch Council later issued a statement saying a campaign to unseat the Premier was not the official position of the AEU. Leanne Wright rejects any suggestion the union’s Branch Council is trying to appease the Government at the expense of its members. In another email, the President of the union’s Secondary College Sector, Greg Brown, describes the Branch Council’s position as “impotent.” The election ballot closes at 10 a.m. on Monday.
