Teachers' war: Union boss holds her job 4

The re-elected head of the Education Union in Tasmania says her priority remains holding the government accountable on its changes to the education system.

Ms Wright has beaten four challengers in a ballot of 2,300 members, polling 52 per cent of the vote.

The Education Union decided not to campaign against the re-election of the Premier, David Bartlett, in March over his handling of the post-year 10 changes, despite grassroots support.

However, Ms Wright says holding the government accountable remains a priority.

“I’d certainly want to work constructively with all parts of the union and my aim is to further strengthen the union and put our issues or matters that we need to deal with first rather than individual matters,” she said.

Mr Bartlett has congratulated Ms Wright on her re-election.
