PIONEERING laws to offer compensation to Tasmanian Aborigines forcibly removed from their families as part of the Stolen Generation were passed yesterday by the Tasmanian House of Assembly.
I sat in on this session in parliament, first time in the presence of our infamous politicians. I wonder that Sue Neales can remain focused long enough to write about this dismal collection of uninspiring reps e.g. one long-sitting member constantly made unnecessary comment, like a new-age minister inspiring his flock.
The system should be changed so that pollies only spend half days in parliament and the remainder out doing practical work with constituents. I don’t wonder that they have time to dream up mates’ deals - the boredom would be overwhelming otherwise.
