With regard to these 48,000 sleepers. Way back in my days, working on railway demolition jobs all over Australia, of unused and or condemned rail spur-lines, (those leaving Major Arterial lines,) these jobs were ‘purchased’ by tender from the railways departments. EG: the contractors payed for the job and also left a healthy deposit to ensure job site was properly cleaned up and left in a tidy state. Upon the completion of contract in a set time then deposit was returned. Here we see our famous Sturgo has gone in the opposite direction and we see how the contractor is ‘being paid’ to remove that of which has a high commercial resale price. Only an uninformed unwise person could create a costly scenario, as is this particular case. The jewellery, (all steel components that formed their part of these rail lines,) from this job also has its commercial value. Only a Sturges could muck this up, (what should have been a source of revenue,) he has turned into a costly burden upon the Tasmanian taxpayer. Strange how he has become a serial offender in all matters that his hands have touched.
