For all his gruff, even surly, demeanour, Tim’s professed abhorrence of Tasmania’s eminently two-tiered justice system suggests he does have a sardonic sense of humour.  How else could he have survive the TCC burlesque?

Well to some of us “constitutional crises” are very pressing and important. You know once upon a time and not so long ago, it wasn’t in the constitution, let alone important or pressing for the government to protect children, until they were murdered!  To some of us the actions of politicians who ultimately make the laws to protect us, is of the utmost importance. Are we a minority, I don’t think so. Laws have been created so other, so called ‘policing’ units ( such as Parks and Wildlife, the Ifs and on on it goes,) cannot protect areas that they are responsible for. Who then protects the average citizen from shonkey, mindless, apparently forgetful corrupted governments?  Years down the road, ‘hindsight’ comes into play – who has helped disrupt that along the way?  No matter which pollie or big player has what ‘on’ those they are trying to control, no matter, the ‘more bang for bucks’, - the good average citizen WILL continue to ask for honesty and integrity , let alone a fair go.  Hope you rest well in complacency!

Clear the air? These few elliptical sentences hint at this and that but say nothing. After the DPP’s allegations of inappropriate closeness between Premier and police on the one hand, and the Premier’s allegations of dishonesty on the DPP’s part on the other, there clearly was a serious breakdown in proper working relations between the government and the DPP. This snitty little letter simply confirms that such a breakdown still exists, and we, the poor long suffering public, are given Lennon’s favourite mushroom treatment yet again—kept in the dark and fed bullshit. Can’t wait to hear Bartlett’s take on air clearing.

On 24 October, the Director of Public Prosecutions released a media statement which said, in part, ‘I.. will not agree to the elitist suggestion that there should be, in effect, one set of laws and rules for the powerful or well-connected, who are able to enlist media and political support, and another for everyone else.’

Surely the DPP must realise that there already is one set of laws for everyone else, and a different, reduced set of laws favourable to one industry – forestry – which also regulates and polices itself.

The forestry industry has been excluded from normal planning processes (e.g. Gunns pulp mill, LUPA), has had special laws written to favour forestry and disadvantage the wider community (e.g. Pulp Mill Assessment Act which removes taxpayers rights of appeal).

Forestry is exempt from environmental and other laws that apply to everyone else (e.g. Natural Vegetation Act, Clean Air Act, Freedom of Information Act), and receives substantial public subsidies that themselves are not properly reported.

These subsidies, which comprise free resources, cash and cost reductions total around $250 million per year and include the $55 million loss posted by Forestry Tasmania this year.

Forestry produces large amounts of smoke during its burn offs, and put biocides on their plantations, both of which threaten the health of honest taxpayers who have no recourse because the industry is self regulating and self policing. In other words, when taxpayers seek restitution for forestry industry damages, they must appeal to the forest industry itself – a direct violation of the principles of natural justice.

There’s more, but suffice it to say that from a community perspective, it appears that it would not be an ‘elitist suggestion’ to say there was a special set of rules for the powerful and well connected, rather it appears to be a matter of fact.

Discrimination in favour of particular industries and against taxpayers, is destabilising Tasmanian communities and fuelling deep suspicion and resentment of the government.

These are some of the reasons why Mr Bartlett finds himself constantly being criticised or suspected of being disingenuous.

Sheep dogs have two choices - obediently come back to their learnt duties or disobey the tyrant shepherd and join the wild pack….only to be hunted down and killed.

We all know what most dogs do. But maybe even these dogs are clever…beginning with ‘not biting the hand that feeds him’.

As a sheep dog, I failed miserably. Life’s always risky as a free-ranger in bad-land territory.

By the first paragraph of Ellis’s media release I was impressed by Ellis’s wicked sense of Humour. By the end i wondered whether the whole thing was a pisstake. I think I like the man.
