When is Anzac Day again?

This inept bunch of public servants doesn’t know when Anzac Day occurs.

Public Notices - The Mercury Sat 23 April 2011 (page 29)

One and a quarter columns - about 30% of the whole page - is devoted to TRAFFIC DISRUPTIONS. The heading and first paragraph names ‘Sunday 25 April’ as Anzac Day.

Wrong!

Which idiots signed off on this before taking their six-day publicly-funded holiday?

Bummer- I’ve always thought the date was 25 April- glad you raised this mate. I checked some diaries and they say 25 April too. Even the RSL thought it was 25 April! I think they got the day wrong in the ad (it is Monday) but hadn’t realised they got the date wrong as well. And I hadn’t realised public servants had six publicly funded days off- I thought it was only good friday, easter monday and bank holiday easter tuesday. Lucky you told me otherwise I would have been working on my holidays.

Bummer #2 - you’re right, better make that 4 days taxpayer-funded, plus a plain old weekend off for shopping.

Can’t say I blame them. Listening to the media over the last few days I think they forgot Easter. It has all been about Anzac Day. Despite what many may believe, there are two distinct and different messages in these two events.

Yep, I can see it now. Sometime around Tuesday/Wednesday last week the manager realised that the public notice hadn’t been placed. So the task devolved to the office junior and, with no double check, this is what we get.

Pity the poor office junior and just consider what’ll happen with 2,300 less staff in the PS. Work smarter huh? You only get that with a smart workforce in the first place.

I read in the Mercury this morning that the state gov’t have 84, or there about, media advisors, and it seems that none of them could even get this important date right. Apparently we pay them massive wages for what??? Must be friends and family of the pollies with the same almost non-existent IQ.

The Government’s Media advisors are best described as tenured press officers. They do NOT usually tender draft for public notices.

They do, however, provide ministerial briefs, press releases, act as press conduits and, in the best of traditions, put as positive a spin on a story as possible.
