There is no point in complaining to David Llewellyn’s DPIW or his surrogate on animal welfare matters, the RSPCA.  Both these organisations appear even more gangrenous that the animals they fail to protect.

The RSPCA has recently and rather suddenly plunged from surplus into considerable debt at the same time it has reduced its services.  It gained recognition recently for refusing an extremely generous contribution from a weathy benefactor for a de-sexing clinic because she would not grant them complete discretion as to how her money was to be used.

There is a very foul and persistent smell coming from Llewellyn’s sty.  If only there were an ICAC to investigate.

How can we justify treating animals in this way? As human beings we are supposed to treat those who serve us as humanely as possible. Yet we fail, repeatably and lamentably.

From the responses that I received I published a form letter that people could copy/paste and email off to Woolworths. As yet I haven’t received a response from Woolworths. Here is the form letter (courtesy of Pete Golding)

Dear Woolworths,

I am horrified to see how out of touch Woolworths is with its suppliers that it takes trespassing activists to let the company know about the sickening conditions of the pigs in your suppliers’ care that has come to light recently.

If you think a list of suggested improvements and a follow up once a fortnight is an appropriate response you are deluded. People are incensed about this! I would be on their doorstep daily if I valued my reputation and animal welfare meant anything to me apart from brand image.

I think the company has under-estimated how much this has and will continue to tarnish your reputation. I am shocked that this is how the company wants to be seen.

I myself will not be buying pork products from Woolworths until you can satisfy me that they are being ethically produced in a humane environment.

Woolworths have got clever. They demand contact phone details as ‘number only.’
When ‘number only’ is supplied they still send the same message. That way they don’t have to receive the bad news that neither me or mine will ever shop there again.
