TASMANIA has endured the most expensive pool price in the National Electricity Market since it joined last May. The revelation comes as it was yesterday confirmed Tasmania paid the most expensive spot price possible, $10,000 per megawatt hour, to import power from interstate for 20 minutes on Tuesday morning. Market figures showed yesterday that the state paid top dollar for power this week because of a system crash. Also, four gas-powered turbines, for which Hydro Tasmania paid $37 million last August, have been idle at Bell Bay since late March.
