The Act Your Age-seniors theatre group http://www.actyourage.org.au, established in 2006 is a an amateur volunteer seniors theatre group with 8-11 members over the age of fifty performing at Probus Clubs, Schools for Seniors, Conferences, AGMs, community forums and similar venues as invited to appear. Essentially AYA evolves around positive ageing issues which impact on the lives of all older people living in Australia.
We develop our own productions including script writing the programs which range from a fifteen minute vignette to a one hour interactive performance. The core of our own material raises the “voices” of older persons through humorous narrative melodrama applying theatre in the round. As opposed to the normal genre of older persons theatre we don’t just wear silly clown hats, or sing world war 2 songs.
Our style is to focus on real life issues and this means having a go at banks, customer service, Telstra, health departments, Centrelink and similar organisations.
