DEVONPORT REGIONAL GALLERY

The 7th Leica Touring Show brings the best Australian photographers to Devonport

Since its inception in 1997 the 7th Leica /CCP Documentary Photography Exhibition and Award has been touring Australia representing the best of contemporary photographic practice. The Devonport Regional Gallery is proud to welcome this internationally recognised exhibition through its doors on 22 July.

The 7th Lecia show combines many different styles and approaches to photography. The diversity of subject matter varies between human behavior, coming of age and the social and environmental issues currently effecting the landscape of Australia and overseas.

The winner of the 7th Leica award went to Sydney-based photographer, Tom Williams for his documentary style series titled Neighborhood: The Redfern-Waterloo Public Housing Estate. These documentary style works explore some key issues influencing marginalized people living in public housing projects on the outskirts of Sydney’s CBD.

Other works include two photo-journalistic projects from the Victorian bush fires by Andrew Quilty and Dean Sewell, alongside travel and street photography works by artists Darren Clayton and Matthew Abbot.

The Devonport Regional Gallery invites the community to come and view the innovators of photographic practice in Australia. To be opened by Dr David Martin on 22 July 6pm at the Devonport Regional Gallery
