Moonah Arts Centre is pleased to present one of the rising stars of Tasmania’s vibrant folk scene as part of its popular Friday Night Concert Series.

Daideo and the Blue Mosquitoes will present a one hour concert at the Centre, 65 Hopkins St, Moonah , this Friday the 16th April, commencing at 7:30pm.

Daideo and the Blue Mosquitoes have an energetic vibrant sound - mixing traditional Celtic music with contemporary sounds. Their influences have been a mixture of folk legends and local/national bands including inspiration drawn from Sunas and the Borstal Boys.

Think the Pogues with mellow undertones of Dougie Maclean and a harsh hint of the Cranberries. Basically the Blue Mosquitoes are aiming to take Celtic folk music to a whole new generation and have already started to introduce their own material that aims to promote an exciting fusion between past and present.

The band formed in 2006 and comprises four very talented young musicians: Hannah Foley (Mad Fiddle and Vocals) brother Stuart Foley (Crazy on Guitar and Mandolin), their cousin Chris (Hardcore Bodhran, Guitar, Mandolin, Whistle, Vocals), and Moire (Whistle, Bodhran and Raging Vocals).

Daideo and the Blue Mosquitoes play regularly around Hobart and have a growing reputation in the National folk scene as an exciting young band with a big future. Their career highlights to-date includes when Dougie Maclean invited the band on stage to perform with him ‘This Love Will Carry’ at the 2009 Cygnet Folk Festival and also supporting the legendary Saw Doctors on the Tasmanian leg of their national tour.

The band have become seasoned performers having three times played at the Cygnet Folk Festival, Taste of Tasmania and twice at the Hobart Harmony Day Celebrations as well as playing at numerous other events and festivals, including regular gigs at the New Sydney Hotel and Brookfield Vineyard the leading venues of Celtic folk music in Southern Tasmania.
