Earth Art on West Wellington
Art therapist Louise VanderDonk of ‘Dynamic Art’ in Huonville, is offering a unique and creative
experience, held on 2 Saturdays in June. You are invited to partake in an exciting and healing
journey of sculpture creation in the old forest of the West Wellington area.
Louise is a qualified practitioner of Transpersonal Art Therapy, which promotes health and wellbeing
within a therapeutic and professional relationship while moving beyond the constraints of
everyday thinking. Art therapy encourages greater self awareness and self realisation while
accessing and understanding messages from the unconscious. Through this approach creativity
and positive emotional responses are achieved. In a supported and safe environment, art therapy
is an important tool for fostering resilience and confidence where the emphasis is on healing
rather than curing. Through meditation, breathing, guided visualisation and creative expression the
process becomes a journey of self discovery that is more important to the participant than the
resulting artwork. As a non analytical process, art therapy allows individual communication
through imagery, empowering and supporting personal growth.
There will be two workshops, one for adults and one for children. Both days will begin with a short
bush walk into a beautiful and inspiring setting of old growth forest within the West Wellington
area. In this tranquil environment adults will be led on a meditative journey of discovery and
connection with the life giving energy of nature. The resulting ideas and insights will then be given
expression through sculpture from natural materials found in the forest. As the emphasis is more
on the journey than the finished product, the sculptures will be of a temporary nature and be left
in the forest. With permission they will be photographed for possible publication.
The children’s workshop will be similar but with emphasis on exploring gifts from nature and
playful, creative story-telling, and they will have the option to take their work home. Children need
to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
The last part of the day will be sharing stories and exercises to regroup, so people can leave with a
clear mind and a clear insight into what it was all about. It will be a caring and healing environment
with great respect for each other and for nature.
These workshops are being offered at very low introductory prices. Proceeds, after costs, will go to
support the work of the West Wellington Protection Group.
