Forest moratorium celebrated at Citizen Science forum focusing on forest dependent research programs

A public forum will showcase scientific research being conducted in Tasmania’s high conservation value native (HCV) forests by ordinary Tasmanian’s. The forum will discuss the moratorium on logging in those HCV forests and the reprieve this will give both the forests and the species that depend upon them for habitat.
The forum will hear presentations by:
• Ruth Groom (the Wilderness Society) looking into a volunteer driven carbon accounting program conducted over the last 18 months. Preliminary results have confirmed Tasmania has some of the most carbon dense forests in the world (The Wilderness Society).
• Todd Walsh (The Lobster Man) talking of his work to protect the habitat of the Giant Freshwater Lobster in Tasmania. Todd will have live examples of lobsters on show.
• Sarah Lloyd (fungi expert) with a look at some of the smallest and most delicate species in our forests.
The forum will also feature a film on the groundbreaking research program photographing endangered Tasmanian devils and quolls in forests scheduled for logging in the Upper Florentine and a discussion on the Statement of Principles peace plan.
