Huon Valley Environment Centre
16th February 2009
The Huon Valley Environment Centre is hosting a community forum in Judbury this Sunday to raise awareness about the social and environmental impacts of a proposed wood fired power station in the Huon Valley.
Will Mooney of the Huon Valley Environment Centre and Alistair Graham from the Humane Society International will discuss issues surrounding the proposed power station as well as the international climate change issues surrounding wood fired power. The speakers will be followed by a screening of the documentary ‘Wasting the Woods’.
“There are a number of very worrying recent developments surrounding wood fired power stations that should make Tasmanians more concerned than ever about plans to burn our native forests for power generation,” said Will Mooney of the Huon Valley Environment Centre.
“We will be addressing these issues and explaining how the proposed power station could affect local communities and the environment,” Mr Mooney said.
“We believe that Tasmania can generate a clean, green renewable future without burning our native forests. This forum is an opportunity for people to hear the facts and tell our politicians that Tasmania says no to wood fired power.”
The forum will be held at the Judbury Memorial hall this Sunday the 28th February from 4-6pm
