Fullers Bookshop wins Best Independent Bookseller in Tasmania for the ninth time.

Fullers Bookshop has won the Australian Book Industry Award’s 2010 Best Independent Bookseller in Tasmania for the ninth time.

This award is the pinnacle of recognition in the Australian Book Industry and is judged by 75 publishers from around the country, part of the Australian Book Industry’s Academy, who voted online in April and May.

The criteria on which it is judged include; best applied retail skills, best use of available resources, marketing skills, merchandise flair and inventory management expertise to develop sales.

Fullers, which moved to a bigger space around six months ago, after 17 years in the same spot, was established early last century and has some customers who have been coming to their various stalls for seventy years.

Ben Walter, acting manager of Fullers, said the move has been significant “it’s an easier space to work in and far more flexible for events,

“More importantly it’s given us a chance to thing freshly and to diversify our range of services and events program.”

He said that Fullers is recognised for the books that they carry and the service they provide “our reading groups, events and community partnerships mean we are active in Hobart like no other bookshop.

“We’re moving in directions, like our XYZ reading community for younger people and that make us unique in Australia,” he said.

The National Independent Bookseller winner will be announced on Wednesday, June 30th in at a ceremony in Sydney.

Fullers won the National prize in 2001.
