From the President of SORELL ON STAGE

Happy Birthday Sorell on Stage!!

It has been my great pleasure to be the first Chairman of Sorell on Stage and I thank all for their assistance, patience and perseverance over the last year.

It has certainly been an exciting year which started with a group of strangers who had a love for theatre, nothing else, and it has sped past, growing beyond our wildest dreams whilst introducing an active theatre group to this South Eastern region of Tasmania.

Success always depends on activity, and Ronnie Brello and Saakia Itchins as our directors in this first year have been fully supported by Tony Brello with sound, music and all things technical, Trish Evans with dance and movement, Michelle Pears with costumes as well as the hard work from the cast and members of Sorell on Stage.

Throughout 2010 and into 2011 Sorell on Stage has presented a number of activities, starting with a workshop headed by Angela Panaretos, then a pantomime, quiz night, a poetry evening, an Australia Day sketch and a soon to be presented comedy.

The support and acceptance by Sorell Council, the Sorell School and our Southern Beaches Regional Arts umbrella has enabled us to forge on with an April production of “Beyond a Joke.” Further events are on the drawing
board. Sorell on Stage membership is increasing with each activity.

On behalf of Sorell on Stage I would like to thank the residents of Sorell and surrounds for their wonderful support throughout the year, the many businesses that have helped us along the way and the Sorell Times for their monthly advertising of our events and productions.

The Annual General Meeting of Sorell on Stage will take place on Sunday March 27th at 5pm at the Community Meeting room next to the Labor Office.
Those interested are very welcome to come along.

I had the pleasure of attending the Regional Arts’ Junction 2010 national conference in Launceston as a delegate. Now Tasmanian Regional Arts will have a Great Southern Creative Escape in September, where regional arts branches and galleries take part in a big exhibition and performance events over two weekends. Sorell on Stage should hopefully be taking part.
