Moonah Arts Centre’s popular Friday Night Concert Series continues on Friday 11th November with a performance by popular acapella group, Loose Canon.
The Loose Canon Chamber Singers will defy their name in a performance of exquisite harmonies entitled “Life, Love and Lullabies”. The one hour concert will feature works from composers as diverse as Vaughan Williams, Edward Elgar and Billy Joel.
Loose Canon began as the TSO Chamber Singers but is now a completely self-managed group, though many of its 19 members also sing with the TSO chorus.
“It’s such a joy to sing with a small group”, said coordinator Beth Warren. “It’s like getting together with a group of friends. And we particularly enjoy working with guest conductors on each of our projects”.
Loose Canon is delighted to welcome Stephanie Abercrombie, long-time member and director of the Jane Franklin Consort, as their conductor for this concert. Stephanie will also be accompanying the group on piano for the final bracket in the program, which includes 16th Century madrigals, English folk songs, some traditional works that people will recognise, and more modern pieces including two lullabies.
“Everyone will recognise some of the music” said Beth, “but they’ll also enjoy just sitting back and letting the harmonies wash over them in the less familiar pieces.
“It’s always good to sing at the Moonah Arts Centre – there’s a loyal and enthusiastic audience who attend the regular monthly concerts. Where else could you get such a range of musical offerings for just the price of a gold coin donation?”
