TASMANIA, 16th November 2011 - Tasmania’s political leaders will put their differences aside today
as this year’s Kmart Wishing Tree, Australia’s largest gift appeal, launches with the country’s largest
Christmas wish-list on the lawns of Parliament today in Hobart.

The giant wish-list will be the Tasmanian face of the nation-wide appeal, and will include the wishes
of several key members of Parliament, including Opposition Leader Will Hodgman.

Passers-by are also invited to participate by adding their own wishes for the holiday season to the
list.

Salvation Army Captain Craig Wood said the Appeal was a great way to show support for people
struggling this Christmas.

“With the support of the Tasmanian community, we can help make this year a truly special Christmas
for people in need,” Captain Wood said.

“Our goal is to assist the many families who seek out The Salvation Army for gifts for their families at
Christmas. Even the smallest gifts can make a big difference to those in need.”

The Salvation Army reports that more than one in four (28 per cent) who sought support from the
charity across the country last year, say they are worse off this year compared with 2010.

The national target for this year’s Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal is 470,000 gifts, building on last year’s
record tally of 464,000.

Kmart Managing Director, Guy Russo, praised everyone’s support of the Appeal.

“Our Kmart team is honoured to be able to provide stores where Australians can give to those who
are doing it tough at Christmas, and we’re thankful for the public’s ongoing generosity towards our
very much loved Wishing Tree Appeal.

“Year after year we see Australians digging deep to help out, and we know this Christmas will be the
same. I am always astounded at how supportive our communities are. Giving people some hope at
this time of year is the greatest gift we can give,” Mr Russo said.

To participate in the Appeal, simply place a gift under the Christmas Wishing Trees located in all
Kmart stores around Australia. Take a gift tag from the tree to identify the age and gender of a
suitable recipient and place it with your gift under the tree. Gifts do not have to be purchased at
Kmart.

Alternatively, you can make a cash contribution to the Appeal at any Kmart store register or online at
