Post Year 10 Union President Praises Election Result
Tasmanian Electorate’s Anti Tasmania Tomorrow Protest
The Post Year 10 sector of the Australian Education Union is urging the Liberal Party and the Greens to move quickly and decisively to end Tasmania Tomorrow, David Bartlett’s controversial and discredited PY10 education plan.
As the final distribution of seats in the new parliament is continuing, AEU members in the Post Year 10 sector are becoming convinced that the final result will demonstrate an emphatic rejection of Tasmania Tomorrow by the Tasmanian electorate.
Greg Brown, AEU Secondary Colleges President, said,” The Liberals and the Greens both went to the Tasmanian people with a clear policy to end Tasmania Tomorrow. The result gives Will Hodgman and Nick McKim a clear mandate to get rid of this failing educational experiment.”
The likely make up of seats in the next parliament is 10 seats to the Liberals, 5 to the Greens and 10 to Labor.
“The election result shows that the two parties that had a policy to get rid of Tasmania Tomorrow and re-establish the secondary colleges and TAFE obtained 60% of the seats,” Mr Brown said.
“Our campaign had a lot to do with that result. We did everything last year to try to get David Bartlett to listen and take action but he kept turning a deaf ear to our concerns. The irony is that the two leaders who listened to us and worked with us have both been returned with greatly increased personal votes. The one that didn’t has lost majority government, and has presided over a loss of almost 40% of his party’s parliamentary representation.”
Mr Brown urged Nick McKim and Will Hodgman to move quickly on Tasmania Tomorrow. “The roll back can be done efficiently and quickly,” he said. “Ninety-nine percent of the structures and people are in place. It will not be an expensive thing to do.”
