In light of 73% of Rosny College staff voting against adopting the Tasmania Tomorrow changes, the Government must immediately take stock and review the effectiveness of the changes.

We know that many teachers are upset with the reforms.  They feel let down and they think the students are being let down.  Now we have another strong sign the Tasmania Tomorrow shake up simply isn’t working.  The teachers are voting with their feet and the Premier needs to take notice.

We believe that the changes should not be rolled out to more colleges, like Rosny College, until we have clear data that shows the changes are working, and a chance to fully review exactly what the systemic problems are.

At the moment, the Government is pushing ahead simply because the Premier is so invested in these changes that any delay would be a clear sign that he has handled the implementation appallingly.

Apart from the fact that teachers are now openly questioning the Premier’s changes, we still don’t know how many students are in the new system, and indeed how many have left the system, yet alone whether or not the changes are providing students with the best education possible.

There are so many unanswered questions regarding Tasmania Tomorrow that it would be almost negligent to persist with the roll-out while there are so many problems.

It should never be forgotten that teachers believed the Premier had promised to delay implementation of these reforms until 2011 in any event but he dudded them. It prompted extraordinary claims from the teachers’ union of lies and betrayal from the Premier.

If only the Premier hadn’t been too arrogant and self-obsessed to listen to the concerns that were being expressed to him from the start.
