The Wheeler Centre calls for entries for the 2010 Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards

In 2010, the Wheeler Centre proudly takes stewardship of these prestigious awards and today invites Australian writers and publishers to submit entries across the 12 categories.

Arts Minister Peter Batchelor said, “The Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards honour achievement, recognise and promote our writers and celebrate our diverse literary culture.”

“The Premier’s Literary Awards will complement the Wheeler Centre’s fantastic program of events and initiatives that foster and support the culture of reading and writing here in Victoria.”

Nominations are sought for the following awards, offering $210,000 in total prize monies:
The Vance Palmer Prize for Fiction $30,000
The Nettie Palmer Prize for Non-fiction $30,000
The CJ Dennis Prize for Poetry $15,000
The Louis Esson Prize for Drama $15,000
The Prize for Young Adult Fiction $15,000
The Alfred Deakin Prize for an Essay Advancing Public Debate $15,000
The Grollo Ruzzene Foundation Prize for Writing about Italians in Australia $15,000
The Prize for a First Book of History $15,000
The Prize for Indigenous Writing $15,000
The John Curtin Prize for Journalism $15,000
The Prize for Best Music Theatre Script $15,000
The Prize for an Unpublished Manuscript by an Emerging Victorian Writer $15,000

Entries close Friday 18 June. The shortlist will be announced on Friday 3 September followed by the announcement of the winners in late September at the celebratory dinner. For full entry details and more information visit wheelercentre.com
