And, out of Right field

By phill PARSONS

Out they come, the rabid right, the looney toones of reaction. No we’ll have none of that new fangled stuff and heaps of what it used to be like, remember the good old days, when women knew their place and higher education was reserved for the rich..

Only one exception stands through such periods, the worship of moollah is to be promoted above all else, especially the future.

We’ve had Abbott on abortion, the huge numbers were such a scare and it was on the rise. Sorry Tony, there has been a fall of 4,000 to 73% of the scaremongering figure quoted by the Minister in the period measured [1998 to 2003]. The sorcerers apprentice, Parlysec Pyne chimed in on the contradiction of late term abortions and supporting preterm babies in humidicribs in the same hospital.

Were this the only contradiction in health. When will they ban those gaspers, stop the availabilty of foods that have the poor health outcomes of diabetes, heart disease and the other impacts of obesity.

And now out comes the H R Nicholls Society on industrial relations. Yes, let's ban them, especially the right to withdraw labor. A condition that used to be referred to as slavery, when you were responsible for feeding them, and serfdom, where they had to grow their own.

Mind you a completed deregulated labour market will bring the benefits that the US has. Crime rates that are, like all things from our ally, humungous. Drug abuse that creates both a costly law enforcement problem and a war on drugs involving adventures throughout the Americas, that’ll knock down the unemployment, one way or another.

The chestnuts of readin and writin have again been raised, this time by the father of the nation Brendan Nelson of earing and education. I can sympathise with complaints about being assailed by what appears to be me an incapacity by many younger people to use the language. But wasn’t it ever thus. Has the illiteracy rate risen. Do they want a literate populace, they may correspond and historians know the outcome of such society.

All that is really required is the capacity to visit the Centrelink site, be it shopfront, call center or automated internet site. Community responsibility to match the new moral responsibilities.

And for those hanging from the safety net reduced benefits. If your’e disabled a higher test to pass or you have to find your own way. If your skills become outdated or are seen as irrelevant onto the scrap heap to paint posts as heritage is left to decay or plant trees in the midst of environmental destruction.

We will see the surplus of the day discharged to some of the taxpayers of the day, not invested in modernizing the infrastructure and thus providing those jobs that further economic growth depend on. This may have the benefit of making life for all better. No, we’ll have none of that either.

Phill Parsons is bemused by the electorate failing to see the need for the moral dimension of the Yes Minister program. He notes the lack of butts on the beach and calls on the Council to ban if’s as well.
