Dear Dick Adams

By LEON RUSSO

Dear Dick Adams,
good luck in your bid for re-election.
8.2% is undefeatable. You will be returned.

Following your comments contrary the Leader's policy shortly before a close election, I can only hope that you have not handed this ramshackle reactionary government the means for yet another victory.

Let's hope Labor's history of 'self destruction' will not repeat itself as it has in the past.

Need I bring to light Federal Labor's past history of idiotic election losses due to certain individuals' selfishly going loose cannon and bringing the whole show down at the expense of everybody else?

Bob Santamaria's self centred interests retarded this country's advancement for over a generation.

Brian Harradine, despite his commitment to Tasmania, sold out his Party. Let us never see this type of treachery again.

They both achieved substantial losses for Labor by taking so called "principled" stands.

Your statements the other day indicate a curious allegiance.
You claim to stand for our TIMBER INDUSTRY, yet support the woodchip leviathan that is crushing it.

What is the principle you stand for here, Dick?

As a former TIMBER worker and campaigner for you I ask - Where have you been, Dick? At the Gunns christmas party?

TIMBER is going down the tube and you continue to support the death knell of the industry - woodchip. Big woodchip, Dick.

Big money for a few of your mates Dick; not the lot of us like Labor traditionally supports.

To sell out the interests of the timberworkers and the profits this State should have made, but have gone to Gunns Directors and shareholders is possibly understandable, but to sell out the Party and your constituents in unforgivable.

I hope you win, Dick.

This election is the chance to rid the nation of the retarding Liberal mould that grows on our previously generous society.

You, Dick, have endangered our hard-earned and hard lived efforts to be a Labor Nation once again; a fair country, a good country, regrouping after eight years of Howard's divisive vomit.

Why have you chosen to go with the corporate contributors at the cost of the many small local sawmillers?

Again, I ask you to make plain your anti-Party, anti-electorate, pro-minority Big dollar principles.

Be assured, there are persons waiting in the wings of the Party that would never have done what you have done, Dick ,ie-
1) Sell out the timberworkers you claim to represent;
2) Misrepresent the overwhelming wishes of your constituency on the FORESTRY issue;
3) Break ranks with Party policy on the eve of our most important election thus endangering everybody else's efforts and achievements

I wish you luck in tomorrow's election: not for you, but for a Labor win, which we all need.

You have gambled the future three years of this country's future with your stupid, selfish, and treacherous statements. Expect to be accountable for your actions.

Start woofin' down those cases of plonk Dick, 'cause your time as a representative of the good people of Tasmania is coming to an end. Sadly, not from the Liberals or the Greens as you have been so keen to bleat about lately and forever, but from loyal supporters you have betrayed for the likes of a few matey moneyed contractors umbilically connected to Gunns.

"Well may we say Dick does a good job, but nothing Dick's done has saved our jobs, God help us." - Words of another dudded timberworker.

Former timberworker Leon Russo wrote this on the eve of the election, Friday, October 8
